About the Hub City Senior Center

The Hub City Senior Center is open Monday thru Friday from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The Hub City Senior Center serves the needs and provides services for the Senior (60+) population in Rochelle, Illinois. We also provide a warm and welcoming environment for many activities, as well as fun and fellowship.

We have many programs such as nutritious lunches served daily in collaboration with Lifescape Community Services, Inc., as well as blood pressure and health clinics and other educational programs. Dr. Templin from Expert Foot & Ankle Clinic is available by appointment for foot care. Kelly from the Sterling Hearing Aid Center is available by appointment as well for hearing tests and hearing aid issues. We offer computer classes throughout the year at no cost to the students. We have a computer lab that seniors are welcome to use anytime. We also provide local transportation to those 60 and over who live in Rochelle. See the transportation link for more details.

Brought to us by Rock River Center we offer outreach programs such as Medicare advice and prescription drug planning, as well as tax relief, license fee reduction, and more help seniors afford to live independently. Our programs link these individuals to state and local programs that can assist them.

We also supply ample social activities including twice a week Bingo, Mexican Train Dominoes, Euchre, Pinochle, Bridge, Wii Bowling, pool, and many other fun activities. We have monthly Birthday Parties at the senior center where we celebrate all the birthdays for that month. We enjoy a special meal, along with live music, flowers, balloons, presents, and birthday cake. We usually have around 100 seniors in attendance. We have monthly Movie Days complete with popcorn, soda, candy and most often an ice cream treat. We watch good movies and enjoy a fun afternoon together. Biscuits & Gravy, fresh fruit and Danish are served monthly. We also have a great group of women who gather weekly for quilting and other craft activities.

Icon Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP)

The Hub City Senior Center is a host site for SHIP certified counselors. These counselors are provided to us by Rock River Center. These counselors have been trained by the Illinois Department of Insurance to help educate clients about Medicare Part A & B, Medicare supplements, Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D), Medicare Claims and Appeals, Medicare Savings programs, and more. To make an appointment to meet with our counselor, call us at 815-562-5050.

Information & Assistance

In addition, our counselors have received certification as Information & Referral Specialists for Aging (CIRS-A) through the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems. Outreach services include, but are not limited to: Assistance with applications such as LIHEAP (energy assistance), Tax Assessment Freeze, Healthcare and Family Services (Medicaid / food stamps), enrollment for Medicare Part D, Spousal Impoverishment and Social Security Low Income Subsidy (Extra Help).

Free Amplified Telephones

The Hub City Senior Center also coordinates services with Lee County Council on Aging (LCCOA). They are a Selection Center for the Illinois Telecommunications Access Corporation (ITAC) providing free amplified phones, Captel and TTY phones to people who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, speech-disabled and deaf-blind. Client must be an Illinois resident, have a land line phone and be certified as hearing impaired. A simple application process, a copy of your phone bill, some form of ID, and testing, in our office, of the phones available to find the best choice for you are all you need to be on your way to better communication.

Healthy Lifestyle

A variety of health screening programs are offered periodically at the Senior Center including blood pressure tests, flu and pneumonia shots etc.

Lending Closet

At no cost, the Hub City Senior Center provides wheelchairs, walkers, canes, commodes, bath chairs, and other assistive devices. If you need any of the assistive devices, call us or stop by and we’ll do our best to take care of you. If you have assistive devices you would like to donate, please drop them off or give us a call and we will pick them up.

Hub City Senior Center provides transportation for Rochelle area senior citizens (ages 60 and over) Monday thru Friday from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Because we have just one van, our transportation is limited to Rochelle locations. While there is no charge, a $1 donation each way is deeply appreciated. To reserve a ride, call us at 815-562-5050 as soon as you know you need a ride. It’s best to call at least 24 hours in advance to ensure that we accommodate you. We realize there are times when you are not able to give us a 24 hour notice and we will do our very best to accommodate you.
