Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP)

The Hub City Senior Center is a host site for SHIP certified counselors. These counselors are provided to us by Rock River Center. These counselors have been trained by the Illinois Department of Insurance to help educate clients about Medicare Part A & B, Medicare supplements, Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D), Medicare Claims and Appeals, Medicare Savings programs, and more. To make an appointment to meet with our counselor, call us at 815-562-5050.

Information & Assistance

We partner with Rock River Center and Tri-County Counselors, their counselors have received certification as Information & Referral Specialists for Aging (CIRS-A) through the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems. Outreach services include, but are not limited to: Assistance with applications such as LIHEAP (energy assistance), Tax Assessment Freeze, Healthcare and Family Services (Medicaid / food stamps), enrollment for Medicare Part D, Spousal Impoverishment and Social Security Low Income Subsidy (Extra Help).

Free Amplified Telephones

The Hub City Senior Center also coordinates services with Lee County Council on Aging (LCCOA). They are a Selection Center for the Illinois Telecommunications Access Corporation (ITAC) providing free amplified phones, Captel and TTY phones to people who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, speech-disabled and deaf-blind. Client must be an Illinois resident, have a land line phone and be certified as hearing impaired. A simple application process, a copy of your phone bill, some form of ID, and testing, in our office, of the phones available to find the best choice for you are all you need to be on your way to better communication.
